Staph seen in nearly half of U.S. meat

Almost half of the meat and poultry sold at U.S. supermarkets and grocery stores contains a type of bacteria that is potentially harmful to humans, a new study estimates.

Researchers tested 136 packages of chicken, turkey, pork, and ground beef purchased at 26 grocery stores in five cities around the country, and found that 47 percent contained Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus), a common cause of infection in people.

What's more, roughly half of the contaminated samples contained strains of the bacteria that were resistant to at least three antibiotics, such as penicillin and tetracycline. Some strains were resistant to a half dozen or more.

【經濟日報專訊】醫管局    上周宣布公立醫院今年不再接收內地孕婦，但未叫停明年名額，導致出現「截龍」漏洞！因下周驗出懷孕的婦女，便可預約明年1月名額，而當局於本月底才與公私營醫院商討明年限額問題，最快下月才能達成共識，此漏洞可能引發內地孕婦搶閘霸位。


據悉，有計劃以人工受孕的內地婦女，已開始查詢本港醫院明年初的預約情況。


香港產科服務關注組召集人、中大婦產科教授梁德揚表示，下周驗出身孕的婦女，預產期已屆1月，同意這將成為「截龍」漏洞。

成員之一的威院婦產科主管張德康醫生認為，12月非本地產婦預約早已被截，1月預約才是真正要處理的問題，料不同醫院對此做法不同，處理模糊。他表示：「暫未收到1月的內地婦預約，但醫管局未宣布停收，威院已決定停收，現在都不會收非本地婦的1月預約！」


醫管局發言人回覆證實，會接受明年1月的非本地孕婦預約，但須證實已懷孕，並確定於1月預產期。


私人執業婦產科專科醫生靳嘉仁指出，最近剛確定有身孕的婦女，預約產期約為12月初，但已出現有內地計劃以人工受孕的婦女，查詢明年初本港醫院的預約情況。


9月名額 中介公司索逾10萬


因公院停收今年分娩的內地孕婦，大部分私家醫院的預約至10月亦已爆滿；內地《廣州日報》報道，位於深圳    福田一間中介公司，告知孕婦如要預約9月後的香港產房，僅剩下10萬元以上的頭等房。


本報記者昨日向3間中介公司查詢，其中一間「陽光人生」中介公司表示，仍可預約到9月的本港私家醫院分娩名額，但普通房要10萬元以上，雙人房要13萬，頭等房要16萬元；其餘兩間中介則均表示，無法預約到9月的病房。


仁安醫院院長李繼堯指出，如有內地孕婦最近仍欲預約費用較貴的私人病房或雙人房，還可安排，但據該院網頁，內地孕婦預約私人房，套餐收費最少12萬港元。


港人內地配偶 倡可獲優先權


立法會    衞生事務委員會昨日討論本港產科服務問題，並通過不具約束力的動議，要求公院優先服務本地孕婦外，其餘配額優先給港人內地配偶。食物及衞生局局長周一嶽    表示會研究，但要分辨孕婦身份有困難，另會向私家醫院索取數據研究，才考慮是否收取附加費。


梁德揚認為，接受港人內地妻預約在操作上可行，只要出示丈夫身份證及結婚證明書便可，以往未額外收費時都有此安排。對於偽造婚書，張德康直言：「有人偽造就拉他坐監，世上有偽鈔難道就不印銀紙？」


梁德揚分析，現時一年有5,000名港人的內地妻來港產子，當中八至九成在公立醫院生產，預計公立醫院在3萬名香港孕婦以外，有力承擔這批產婦。
